Double Rainbow Workshop

I was in a plain air workshop in St Lucia last week.  The instructor was Lori Putman.  I invited three friends from Guatemala to join me in this venture.  They came all ready for this exiting journey!  They brought along their spirit of adventure, their good sense of humor, their talent and most of all: THEIR FRIENSHIP!  Ah... yes, of course they brought their painting materials (lots of them).  Very very heavy baggage. They did not know what exactly to expect.  They had seen Lori Putman's work and loved it! They knew it was going to be 7 days of painting in all these fishing little weathered towns in the island of St Lucia.   They said YES to the invitation to join me without thinking it twice.  -Thanks for your trust in me girls!-  Their trust was SO MUCH,  that on the flight to the island,  the moment they had to fill out the immigration papers they realized nobody had my address, the name of the town where I live, telephone number or ANYTHING! Thanks for the trust again, girls!!  I do not have to mention I think this is absolutely HILARIOUS.   We started laughing as soon as they landed.  Laughter and great sense of humor accompanied us during all the time the workshop lasted.  Lori was a great instructor and she happens to be a great person.  So is her husband Mark.  We really learned a lot.!

I must really say I am so very proud of how hard everybody worked.  -Wow girls, you amazed me!-

The theme of our journey was NO FEAR, (well sort of).  This slogan resulted from my comments and writings of fear.  Fear as our enemy in the art process.  Well... we decided that we could recognize love and fear (sort of) in everything we did.  But most important we decided love that was going to be our companion.. (specially when going down a very dangerous, narrow road from the mountain to the beach, we TOTALLY LOST OUR BRAKES) (I mean the car's, of course).  I could barely stopped the car, my legs were shaking.   Lori's team picked us up and we carry on with our day of painting.  After that experience there was very little fear to experience.  We were all very brave to carry on all the techniques and challenges that Lori taught us

On the third day, being at the beach we saw a DOUBLE RAINBOW (how cool is that!)  That' s why I called this worshop, Double Rainbow.  -No fear- said  Hortencia when referring to the workshop.  So I suppose that is the slogan.

This workshop will remain in our hearts ( I know it will in mine).  It was that time in our lives meant for the four of us to share.  We learned a lot as painters, but must of all we learned a lot about our lives as women, our journeys as human beings, as mothers, wives, and specially about friendship.

Thanks Maria Victoria, Hortencia and Ara

Go girls!!!
I miss you already
